www.coldsoresnyc.org (212)-644-9494 Herpes simplex Herpes simplex is a common viral infection that presents with localised blistering. It affects most people on one or more occasions during their lives. There are two main types of herpes simplex virus (HSV), although there is considerable overlap. Type 1, which is mainly associated with facial infections (cold sores or fever blisters) Type 2, which is mainly genital (genital herpes) Both type 1 and type 2 herpes simplex viruses reside in a latent state in the nerves which supply sensation to the skin. During an attack, the virus grows down the nerves and out into the skin or mucous membranes where it multiplies, causing the clinical lesion. After each attack it ‘dies back’ up the nerve fibre and enters the resting state again. First or primary attacks of Type 1 infections occur mainly in infants and young children, which are usually mild or subclinical. In crowded, underdeveloped areas of the world up to 100% of children have been infected by the age of 5. In higher socioeconomic groups the incidence is lower, for example less than half of university entrants in Britain have been infected. Type 2 infections occur mainly after puberty, often transmitted sexually. The initial infection more commonly causes symptoms. How do you get the infection? The infection can be passed on from someone else with an active infection and it can also be passed on from individuals without symptoms. The virus is shed in saliva and genital …

Cold sores are a dreadful ordeal for millions of folks worldwide. These undesirable sores are made by the herpes simplex virus. Nearly 90% of world residents are host to this virus.

Happily there are some very potent ways to cure and prevent cold sores. You can choose to use doctor prescribed medications or natural treatments.

Cold sores are tissue damaging sores that commonly emerge near the mouth or nasal area. Kissing is the normal way you will get infected, or infect someone else. They are extremely contagious and most often passed to another by direct contact with an active sore or virus-laden saliva.

The first indications of an approaching sore you will feel are an itching, burning or tingling, and then red blisters will begin to appear.

They happen primarily due to triggers, such as stress or sickness that suppresses your defenses. Provided you can develop a robust immune structure, you will positively cut down on occurrences of these attacks.

If you are susceptible to outbreaks, you would be really smart to start a good multi-vitamin regimen. Positively look for large quantities of vitamins B, C, A and D to halt or lessen your breakouts.

Another popular natural cold sore remedy is the amino acid lysine. This is a simple protein present in many foods and available as a supplement in capsule form. Lysine works by deactivating the herpes virus.

If you get profuse cold sores, you follow the success of others and take one or two capsules daily as a preventative. If you only get an outbreak two or three times a year, just use lysine during the event.

Zinc is the healing mineral that will help you repair and curtail sores. Zinc is sold in tablet or capsule form. Zinc is the leading mineral for enhancing and maintaining a serious immunity to viruses like herpes.

Quite a few affected people make a thick salve by mixing powdered zinc and water. You will get more pleasing results by using the kind of zinc found in zinc lozenges for colds. This form is designed to absorb dependably.

One of the commonly used pharmacy obtained treatments is a salve incorporating acyclovir. This treatment requires you to put on the salve a minimum of five daily applications for five constant days.

A similar FDA supported lotion providing pharmaceutical anti-viral activity is Penciclovir. You are required to apply it for four successive days, every two hours while you are awake. It may help the first few times you use it, or until the herpes virus develops immunity to it. These anti-viral creams work by protecting adjacent cells from being invaded by the herpes virus.

These pharmaceutical virus medicating creams are not cheap and are more effort than I care for. Natural cold sore remedies usually give more satisfying results for nearly free.

A number of folks use oral prescription tablets incorporating valacyclovir or famciclovir as a cold sore treatment. These anti-viral medications are carried to the sore via your bloodstream.

You need a doctor’s supervision to take these medicines. It also is good to remember that they can be hard on your liver. Another big downside of prescription cold sore treatments is that the virus will rapidly become immune to them.

Other remedies that can be purchased over the counter at a drug store can be ointments with nerve-deadening ingredients. These will help stifle severity by numbing the nerves exposed by the sore. Examine the label for lidocaine or benzocaine.

Cold sores are quite nuisance in your life. They are especially annoying because they occur at the most inconvenient times. There are some over-the-counter remedies at the store made up of natural medicating remedies. These, also, give a measure of comfort.

The secret to winning with any cold sore abatement plan is to commence as soon as you can. That means act as quickly as you feel that first tingling sensation.

To devise a treatment plan that best performs for you will require you to test different remedies and blends of therapies.

If you get successive or especially bad outbreaks, you should see a health practitioner for more in depth information relating directly to your own requirements.

Lastly, you should stay on the lookout for new remedies. You would be smart to visit reliable, popular sites that are completely focused on providing you useful facts, tips, information and a lot of home remedies for cold sores.

Cold sores have been found to be a painful annoyance which people wants to avoid. The main cause of the cold sores normally is a herpes simplex virus which comes up in and around one’s chin, nose and mouth and forms painful blisters. It can also arise on genital area, fingers and eyelids. It is important to learn how to prevent cold sores since these are very infectious in nature. Once a person is infected with cold virus, generally they stay inactive in ones nerves and give birth to cold sores now and then. Thus there are some safety measures which one should ideally perform to prevent cold sores.

Vitamins and a healthy diet is important for one and all, especially to people who are prone to cold sores. In case of one having a weak health, healthy foods always helps in preventing cold sores. The fact is while answering how to prevent cold sores, an individual should clearly recommend a diet which is low in arginine and high in lysine. It is because lysine leads to scaling down of the viral reproduction of the virus. Alternatively arginine leads to reproduction and expansion of the herpes simplex virus. Potatoes, milk, beans, fish and chicken are products which are full in lysine and should preferably be eaten. The fact is you will find doctors who propose supplements also. Foods like nuts and chocolates must be prevented since they are high in arginine. Indeed Vitamin C must be added to one’s diet since it helps in raising immunity which would prevent cold sores!

Over exposure of sun generally results in cold sores as well. Hence people must stay away from triggers like anxiety or staying out in the sun for an elongated period of time. Apart from that flu and cold are also probable factors which cause cold sores. Hence one must be careful not to overdo the above mentioned actions which will help to prevent cold sores.

Improper Personal hygiene is an essential factor for cold sores breakouts. This way if a particular wants to prevent cold sores, it is necessary for one to perform perfect cleanliness. This is extremely necessary especially since the herpes simplex virus is an extremely infectious one. Sharing towels, toothpaste, utensils and other personal things needs to be stopped. More importantly one need to stress on maintaining their hands clean at all points. Staying away from individuals who are suffering from cold sores is also necessary. These elements are quite important while one is wanting to understand how to prevent cold sores.

How to get rid of cold sores is normally the next concern which appears. There are many natural as well other solutions which are easily available when a person has cold sores. Yet always try to remember prevention is better than cure!

Ok, so I have been getting cold sores my whole life but I have only had them spread onto my face once before. This time i have a cold sore on my lip and then it has spread into a bunch of tiny bumps below my lip in a cluster going downwards. I have zovirax prescribed but it doesn’t seem to help at all. I have also iced it but it’s still getting bigger. My question is how to get rid of your cold sore ? Are there any good tips for stopping cold sores from spreading down below your lips and onto your face?

If you also have some bad cold sore that you want to treat then here are some few things you can do to get rid of it so it does not spread down to your face. This may sound very odd but it works very well. Most people put layers of cream and keep them moist then they stay for days and weeks. My mum always puts perfume on hers (apply neat) or even methylated spirits just dab during the day. Now this kills the germs and dries the cold sore and in days of this treatment they vanish…tried and tested (might sting) but persist with it and see the results, she just had a friend heal hers this way. I can even imagine straight alcohol doing the same job, witch hazel as well.

There are more tips on How to Get Rid of Your Cold Sore . Have you tried Carmex on it? Also, there’s something called Bluestar ointment, at the pharmacy. My family uses it for cold sores, scratches, insect bites, etc. It really works. You have to apply it several times a day. It comes in a jar. I hope it works for you.

On a different note, and as you might already know, many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then. If you think it is a cold sore, next time you see your doctor talk to him or her about the medication Valtrex.

Getting rid of cold sores is no fun, but it certainly does not have to be difficult. Fact is, some of the best ways to achieve this are simple, natural cold sore remedies. Below are some of my favorites.

Effectively getting rid of cold sores requires matching the right cold sore treatment to the current stage of your sore. It also requires that you act quickly.

The first stage you will experience is an itching or tingling sensation in the target area. You are feeling the movement of the virus up the nerve fiber to the surface.

The surface end of the nerve is sending you an early warning sign. If you react quickly and correctly at this time, you will slow down the virus. You can often stop it completely.

This is what others do for getting rid of cold sores fast.

1. Start taking lysine capsules immediately. Most folks using this therapy will take about 3000 milligrams per day during an event.

2. Start applying garlic oil right away. Garlic is not only very anti-virus, but has the amazing ability to pass right through the skin to the infection site.

Your best outcome will be to use fresh cut or crushed garlic cloves. Apply the oil directly to the sore area. For convenience, you can buy garlic oil in gel-caps too.

You can use garlic during the entire outbreak. It would be wise to do so. If you do not like garlic, use oregano oil instead. It works, just not as well as garlic.

3. Start applying ice as soon as possible. The replication process of the herpes virus is the cause of a cold sore. Ice, or other cold object, will discourage this from happening.

Sometimes ice will stop the replication process completely thus preventing an outbreak.

Each of these three treatments, by themselves, is great for getting rid of cold sores. Used together you will find them very powerful medicine indeed.

In fact, often you can stop the cold sore from developing any further. When you can stop a developing sore at this stage, it will disappear quickly.

Now, what about getting rid of cold sores that have opened up and are weeping?

Once your sore bursts open, the herpes virus has done most of its damage. From this point on you are in the healing stage.

Your body is creating a thick fluid that weeps from the sore. It is to wash away as much of the new virus particles as possible.

You can wait for it to heal on its own, but it will take time. Better yet, you can really speed healing up with these simply powerful treatments.

You must not use ice anymore. Ice will slow down the healing process. Begin applying hot compresses. Heat greatly speeds up healing by bringing blood to the scene.

For getting rid of cold sores, warm tea bags are the best way to apply heat to the area. Black tea is great. Mint tea, or black with mint, will work much better.

When a scab forms over the sore, it can dry out and crack. This will slow healing. Keep it well oiled and soft by continuing to apply the garlic or oregano oil.

You should also be cleansing the area on a regular basis. Use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. I prefer peroxide because it provides extra healing oxygen.

And, do not stop taking the lysine. Take it until you are totally cured. This will help keep that cold sore from turning around and coming right back at you.

Some folks take a maintenance daily dose of lysine to prevent future sores. This usually amounts to one or two capsules per day.

There are other very good cold sore remedies to try, but the above methods work well – even for the very worst attacks. They will work for you too.

Most people find these methods will outperform store-bought products for getting rid of cold sores – and for a lot less money. Give them a try today.

symptomsofgenitalherpes.com If you happen to be one of the people prone to getting cold sores, you may be wondering if there is any way that you can eliminate these bothersome spots. You may not have realized this, but cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. This is the same virus that can affect other parts of your body, and in all cases, herpes simplex is incurable. Though there is no cure for cold sores, you can prevent their occurrence so that you never have to worry about them ever again. Naturally there are some prescription medications that you can get from your local pharmacy that will help with the problem. They aren’t a cure for cold sores, either, even though these drugs are costly enough to seem like they should be a way how to get rid of a cold sore. Like other medications designed for these spots, prescription methods are designed to stop them from appearing and shorten the healing time when an outbreak occurs. So if there is no cure for cold sores, why should I spend my money on costly designed drugs? Good question!Cure for cold soreshow to get rid of a cold sore

I got a cold sore (due to fever) on Thursday. The blister has disappeared. I have a date with my boyfriend on Tuesday, it is an important date to us and I think he may want to kiss me. So, my hopes are that the virus isn’t contagious anymore. He does know that I had a cold sore in the past week. Does anyone know how long does it take the cold sore virus to leave your body after it has healed?

If you are also wondering this, then here is a response to this question: Cold sores are caused by the virus known as herpes simplex type I (HSV-1). After the first episode of the disease, the virus lies dormant in the nerves or skin around the original area until something sets the virus off into another eruption. Colds, flu, and even stress can cause you to have an outbreak of cold sores. Why you have an outbreak at one time of life and not another is not clearly understood.

You always have the virus. The virus never leaves the body; it just becomes inactive until it breaks out again. It is the Herpes virus. Peroxide on a Q tip helps doctor it out quicker. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 and will never be gone from your body but will lie dormant until something such as infection or stress causes another outbreak to recur.

In the absence of a cold sore one may also transmit the virus through the skin. Oral herpes lesions typically occur on the lips, on the fixed mucosa inside the mouth, including the hard palate and gums, but can occur almost anywhere on the face. Aciclovir cream like zovirax has a drug in it which helps kill the virus

FOR HEAD CONGESTION:

-Use a saline nasal spray

-Place a drop or two of either eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil on a cotton ball or handkerchief and hold near the nose while breathing deeply.
FOR CHEST CONGESTION

-Drink orange tea. Or eat lemon and honey just doesn’t add too much lemon, will make your milk sour.

-Put some vapor rub on your feet with socks, on your chest, back, and throat.
FOR SORE THROAT AND COUGH

-Drink hot water lemon and honey

-Salt water gargle:
Mix a 1 tablespoon of salt in eight ounces of warm water. Gargle the whole mixture (don’t swallow) several times a day.
