Thay are both herpes, just a different type. One is or triggered by nerve irritation- the other is spread through sexual contact, but the outbreaks are relatively similar.

Edit: Changed my answer to make it simpler. Guess the other one was too long.
A cold sore IS herpes. There are two kinds of herpes the one that is a cold sore breaks out around your mouth. The other one called genital herpes comes on your genitals. They both can switch places and live out of their area for a limited time. But mostly they stay in their usual place which for the cold sore herpes is around the mouth and the other herpes sores around your genitals.
Often referred to as herpes-1 (oral herpes) and herpes-2 (genital herpes)
You get genital herpes from having sex with someone who has genital herpes.

if you just have a cold sore, don’t worry about it. That’s just from acidity from the stomach, if i’m not mistaken. Either way, if you’re having a couple of these go get tested. They’re usually free. If you’re not sure which of these it could be, the best bet is to go get tested quick. The sooner the better.
